Speed, Alcohol, and Phone Usage Rules

Speed Limits

Drivers must always follow the speed limits. The speed depends on the road type, the vehicle, and the driver’s experience.

  • Urban Areas (Cities and Towns): The general limit is 50 km/h.
  • Residential Areas and Parking Lots: The limit is 20 km/h.
  • Gravel Roads: The limit is 70 km/h for all drivers.
  • Asphalt or Concrete Roads (Rural Areas):
    • Standard drivers: 90 km/h.
    • Novice drivers (less than 2 years of experience): 80 km/h.
  • Motorways and Highways:
    • Motorways: 130 km/h in summer (April–October) and 110 km/h in winter (November–March). Novice drivers: 100 km/h.
    • Highways: 120 km/h in summer and 110 km/h in winter. Novice drivers: 90 km/h.

Alcohol Limits

Driving under the influence of alcohol is strictly prohibited.

  • Novice Drivers: The limit is 0.00 promille (Zero tolerance). This applies if you have had your license for less than 2 years.
  • Standard Drivers: The limit is 0.40 promille.
